ERSCHIESSUNGSORT (execution site):

In December 1943, seven Italian POWs were executed by an SS firing squad in this depression.

Yet another example of the SS mindset within the Konzentrationslager system, as not only did the act degrade and break the women involved, but it was also an attempt to stimulate productivity among the prisoners.

LAGERKÜCHE (camp kitchen):

The remains of some of the buildings that comprised the Mittelbau-Dora prisoners kitchen and outhouses. Local businesses provided products that were utilised by the camp staff and turned into food for the prisoners, which was totally inadequate. Malnutrition caused many, many deaths among the inmates.

LEBENSMITTELMAGAZIN (food storage building):

SS-LAGER (SS camp):

The next section addressed here is the SS area of the camp. Very little remains, as explained earlier, due to post war use of the land.

KOMMANDANTUR (commandant offices):

No sign of the former offices remain, yet the location is known due to period photographs and corresponding landmarks.

POLITISCHE ABTEILUNG (GESTAPO) UND LAGERVERWALTUNG (Political department/Gestapo and Camp Administration):

Either side of the former entrance to the SS-Lager, were the offices of the Gestapo and SS Administration.

SS-Unterstand (SS Shelter):

For many years, this structure was believed to be a torture chamber used by the Gestapo and SS. However, it was actually a shelter, constructed for the SS guards posted in the watchtower due to the increasing allied air activity.

The view shown below was taken from inside the watchtower, looking out over a section of the former SS-Lager.
