The 69th anniversary of the liberation of Mauthausen.
The Mauthausen Memorial has recently announced some significant changes with regards to visiting, please see the notes below for further details:
FROM 1ST SEPTEMBER 2014
Cancellation of entrance fees
Cost contributions for services - such as guided tours and audio guides at the Mauthausen Memorial and Gusen Memorial.
NEW OPENING HOURS:
From 1st November to 28th/29th February - open Tuesday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday closed.
From 1st March to 10th July - open Monday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
From 11th July to 31st October - open Tuesday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday closed.
Closed from 24th -26th December, on 31st December and on 1st January.

Today, May 5th, marks the anniversary of the liberation of the majority of the camps within the Mauthausen camp system. US forces liberated virtually the entire camp complex on 5th May 1945 - the camps at Loiblpass were reached later.
For those considering a visit to the Mauthausen site, take note of the recently closed quarry stairway ("Stairway Of Death") due to a safety assessment. Details below:
