    KZ-Dachau

The Dachau camp, located in the northeastern part of the town of the same name, just a short drive northwest of Munich, was the original major Konzentrationslager (est.1933). The six period watch towers remain, some of which are shown below. In order, they overlooked the rear section of the Häftlingslager - inc. Angora rabbit hutches and garden market area, accommodation barracks of the prisoners - replacement foundation markers visible in foreground and finally, the camp prison (bunker).

I agree with Phil, this is a great thread Carl, you do a good job mate. The images of these watchtowers send chills down my spine, they are haunting.

Several images taken recently at the major camp established near Danzig (Gdansk, PL). Once completed, the camp had more than twenty watchtowers.

    1) The Hauptwachturm (main watchtower) overlooking the Lagertor (camp gate) to the Häftlingslager (prisoner camp)

    2) This Wachturm stands at the perimeter of the Alte Lager (old camp, i.e. the original prisoner compound) overlooking the foundation marker of a former prisoner accommodation barrack. Beyond, strutures of the SS-Garagenhof (garage yard) are just visible

    3) View across the former old camp, towards the watchtower aside the former Appellplatz (roll call area). To the rear, the large stone markers on the expansive sector beyond mark the location of the former Neue Lager (new camp)

4-5) Closer views of some of the Alte Lager perimeter watchtowers

Note: today, 9th May 2015, marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the camp at Stutthof.

Further views taken at Auschwitz-II Birkenau - both recently and in 2006/07:

1-2) Outside the perimeter fencing that runs alongside Camp BIIa (Quarantine camp)

    3) View toward the Quarantine camp (BIIa) taken from the main gate watch tower, the day before the 62nd anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz camps.

    4) Wachturm located next to the SS Blockführer office - site where the SS doctors would converge when a new transport arrived. The camp compound pictured in the background is BIa (women's camp), the foremost visible structure is the former bath house.
