Various images of watchtowers from some of the KLs I have visited over the years.
Firstly, Auschwitz-I, Stammlager (the main camp).

Next are several guard towers at Auschwitz-II, Birkenau.
The first visit was in the middle of winter, with temperatures down to -25c.
The final image shows the harshness of the conditions that were present. Winters throughout the period when the KL was active, were generally worse.
Next, KL-Breendonk in Belgium.
Another variation, this time located at KL-Buchenwald, Weimar.
KL-Flossenbürg...

All hauntingly imposing structures. They make your skin crawl.
Similar guard towers can be found in NKVD gulag camps across former USSR although they are less well known.
