I paid because I like it anyways.
That's a good enough reason to buy something but it doesn't make it an original item. A seller will tell you anything if they think they're going to make you part with some cash. If the ring was original and the seller knew it was original you would need to shell out rather more than 60 bucks. I wouldn't hold much hope on it being made from 835 silver either unfortunately.
However, if you're happy with it, enjoy it for what it is but please don't think you've bought an original SS ring.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

I purchased this 5th SS Wiking ring and was wondering how to authenticate it? Are there services out there? What is your opinion? It looks in great condition and the seller said it was authentic but never issued to a soldier.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the advice. I'm aware of the honour ring and don't have an original of that either. Don't I wish though!
