It is not pessimism, but the fact we are dinosaurs in a new world. As youngsters, we learned through listening to our mentors and studying the printed word, via tomes of old and new. Patience was not just a virtue, but a necessity for survival, growth, and success. Today's world moves at hyper-speed and images are no longer illustrations in dusty, untouched tomes, but fast moving animations with color and sound. Without having to wait, the world can be reached with a few strokes of the digits.

Perhaps this is progress. However, when I was 18 years old, I took my lowly collecting money and purchased an airline ticket to the Mecca of SS: Kansas City, Kansas. There, I learned my briefcase, stuffed with my SS treasures, was mearly a sachel of jetsom and flotsam which I had blindly sifted from the gun dealers, at local gun shows. Instead of jumping off a bridge, I spend the days studying and learning everything I could. I bought box after box of color Poloroid Land Camera film for my mentor to use to provide images for further study (perhaps only those of gray temples recall 'flash cards'). I stopped buying and started learning. This friendship thrives to this day with more of a brotherly feeling than friendship. Whilst I learned, I saved and began being careful about what I bought. I adhere to the belief that to be successful, you must know more than the person who is making his offerings.

We also have had lifetimes to build collections. Perhaps time seems to stand still for those of youth and vigor, but it creeps up like the unforgiving mistress that tiime is. In almost 50 years of collecting, one is bound to find a trinket, ot two, that will inspire admiration by other collectors. Patience and knowledge are the keywords. I have, at this stage of my life, begun to collect some Soviet WWII militaria. I spend time reading the thousands of dollars worth of reference books I bought. I also use the forums and study those things I seek and ask for the advice BEFORE I leap to buy. I am patient. Good things come to those who are patient and better things come to those who know what is good, and what is not.

In closing, I would hope that restraint and study preceed the action of pressing the 'Send Money' button on PayPal. KNOW what you are buying; don't hope to get lucky. There are few bargains, but those rare items I suffered to buy have become the true long term bargains, in my collection.

Bob, that's why i listen, and read over, and over time again, everything you , F-B, Adrian, and some of the other collectors/experts in here have to say.

As the only way to get to know these items, and carry on the collecting for all future generations is through the knowledge of you guys, and your experiences.

I had been away from my foetid woolens for a while at the scene of the events, as it were, and it is always jarring to experience the cognitive dissonance of the actual places and one's own collection far away from the locale as it were.
Needless to say, things look different today.
