Caps from the Fa. Kornacker, ca. 1938, includes an officer redecorate from enlisted.

Article about: This cap is well pictured in the Shea Beaver book and also has the velvet band added, but the Saaz one looks as if it was done at home, whereas this one was done professionally or surely by

Caps from the Fa. Kornacker, ca. 1938, includes an officer redecorate from enlisted.Iglau is in Moravia and this work I enclose is in Czech and German on life there under the swastika. You can see Saaz as well in the Egerland, in the vicinity of Carlovy Vary, Karlsbad. This map is from 1880.
Do others of your have contemporary accounts of such things written for localities in the present day Czech republic?

Dear F.B., Sir, from your experience and knowledge of black SS visor caps upgraded to Officer level, does the upgrade usually entail the addition of the officer class Velvet hat band over the existing band? (as described on Page 75 of Wilkins) and what seems to be the case in your example above.
If you have experience with a number of these upgraded caps could you please estimate what proportion were "more comprehensively" upgraded? Regards, Paul

I hardly call Wikipedia a reliable source but I expect its contributers to know more than most; From Wikipedia:
"Upon reaching the rank of SS-Standartenoberjunker, the SS officer candidate would be permitted to display the silver chin strap of an SS officer and would be assigned to a field SS unit for final evaluation and field examination. Upon passing this final exam, the Standartenoberjunker would be promoted to the rank of SS-Untersturmführer usually in an elaborate ceremony."
But it explains such circumstances; but should we expect this upgrading more frequently of grey SS visors than black? Regards Paul

This cap on the right is the cap on p.75 of the Wilkins book. I have no idea of how frequent this all was. I have two of them, and Dr. CMH has one, too, all of which came from Shea, who finds them. The redecoration of caps was normal enough, the contemporary sources mention it often enough, and it cost very little for those on a tight budget.

PS Mollo describes the SS Standarten Oberjunker practice with the Muetzenkordel, which was no different than what was done in other services with special insignia for what was essentially a Faehnrich rank.
