The Spiess in a company wore the chevron on the lower sleeve, seldom seen in the original, and when seen, only seen here!

In the SS at arms this badge was or was not phased out in favor of the military style Kolbenringe.


For those who do not know what a Spiess is, it is the top NCO in the company, and Spiess drawn from the implement carried by such NCOs in the Prussian army of yore
to make sure there were no desertions.

We saw in Dr. CHM's research that his man Heinrich had been an NCO in the Rw, and the SSVT recycled a lot of ex military persons.
