double ss runes

what was the double ss runes collar tabs used for? ss runes on both collar tabs. I have seen one period photo of them.

Wear of the SS runes on both collars was only authorised for the SS-VT a very short time, from October 1939 until May 1940. The order was quickly resindered and the rank tab was re-authorised to be worn.

The reason for the dual SS tabs being authorised to be worn was that the SS-VT had introduced Army style rank shoulder straps. So it was felt that the wear of the rank on the collar was no longer needed. However, the use of the camo smock covered up the shoulder straps, so the collar rank tab was reintroduced.

I have a officers pair in my collection, but never seen a soldiers. I think all of that kind of insignia is gone in Eastern front's graves with bodies and in a junk with the worn tunics...
