There is a tendency among some to think of all Nazi regalia as having been seized in the spring of 1945, and then there unfolds a huge gap, and then we have the frenzy of the present. The reality is that in the decades until the recent past, this stuff was so much junk in West Germany except in the eyes of U.S. occupation and or NATO stationed soldiers , who happily scooped it up as junk either on the black market prior to 1948, as friends of mine did, or in the decades since when the West Germans found the stuff repellant except for some ex Nazis in Bavaria and such. It was thus in my time three decades ago in USAREUR.
