Yes, this tab was removed from a Veterans photo album. Not by me I hasten to add!

Buckram comes in many different guises. Take a look at the originals shown on the forum.

Tabs are sometimes constructed by glueing them over the backram.

I have taken a new photo for you. Here are two tabs, the one previously shown and the other is a typical "Dachau" pattern tab.

What I see the most of, are corners just sewn together with a few stitches. Not a line of stitch running the length of the tab. I am guessing that what I am describing is a fake.

I should add that the white stitch line on the "Dachau pattern" tab is just a guide line for folding the cloth over the buckram backing during it's construction.

Thank you again for that little nugget. I am glad I have not gotten too far into collecting SS regalia. I fear I would have drawers full of fakes...apparently I am very adept at purchasing those.

I will tell you this, I have lost more money buying bad SS cloth than on everything else put together. All SS collectors if they are honest will tell you the same thing....It can be hard apprentiship at times.

Ade...it's actually a little comforting knowing that even the pros get fooled every once in a while.
Since I started posting pics of my gear here, I think I'm standing at 30% real, 69.5% fake and .5% unknown.

We all have to start somewhere and with SS cloth it is usually a painful journey.

Take some comfort in your stats: I have seen long established collections with much worse figures than that once the truth come out.
