Personally, I Like this badge, but am only familiar with the thin pin varieties with the W stamp by the silver content. When you say that it was dug, did you dig it yourself? There Were thick pin types of these badges also, but I'm not liking the hinge on this one all that much.

I would doubt it's a ground find, especially in France. But i't's a nice pin, looks good and a very striking design for Viking lovers like me..

It must have been extremely few Norwegian if any at all who fought in France. As far as I know they only volunteered to fight the "Bolschewiks" and therefore should only have been sent to the "Ostfront", but of course there were always someone who ended up in places where they werent supposed to be.

I don't know anything about these badges, but in my opinion, the condition isn't unusual for silver that's been buried for a long time. I've found coins that were buried for 60+ years that had the same look after cleaning. Silver fares a lot better than most other metals in the conditions.
