The Ruptured Duck and Collector´s Guild are the places where I would go to, if I was looking for a good black/green/grey SS hat.

Hoffmann- Bill Shea sells SS caps,
If you like here is the link. Though some think he is charging to much, It all depends on how much you want a cap

I do not wish to engage the dealer thingy in this space. I mentioned that the one cap is for sale because frequently such items appear in books and then are sold to capitalize on the publicity of the book. I do not endorse or decry this fact, it is a fact. I am the beneficiary of owning several pieces that are in books, quite by accident, mind you, and also sold pieces that I later found are in books. At least the latter are in the hands of a friend and a fine collector. Life is inherently unfair, as if one hardly needed reminding, and our purpose here is more to understand the character and essence of this regalia and the lamentations about inequality, prices, and what not are best ventilated somewhere else.

Do let me say that the first grey SS cap I did buy in 1970 cost me exactly USD 80, and was very costly at the time. What that I still had it......

What does the above reveal? In my mind, it only means that I am perhaps too old.

Is this fact evidence of inequality? I suppose it does thus, but such inequality is magnified by the warped mirror of the internet, where we are over stimulated by all these things.

As if such hardly needed stating, if my readers believe that my postings are intended to excite envy and to unleash a peasants revolt against dealers, then I will find pictures of Pez containers to excite passion instead. My goal is education, and no other. In this aspect, I am one of very few. The other website with the maroon background is the place where people can bait each other, foment resentment, and otherwise embrace with open arms the spirit of the 21st century: pre-cannibalism.

Original TR paraphernalia is expensive but the prices of books on the subject are insane and ridiculous!!
A rather rare cap in my collection was published in a well known book but I've never seen a copy of it because not one penny of discount was offered in return for my photos and I refuse to spend 70 quid on one book!
I did once spend £90 on a copy of Shores' "Fighters Over the Desert" for research purposes but it seemed a fair price seeing as though it's been out of print for years and second hand copies rarely come up for sale.

The Schiffer books are marked up 100% when they reach Germany. Good to see you here, Ben. I hope you are well. Do look at the Kreisleitung cap that Mr. Mint posted elsewhere. It is an intriguing piece on the v. Lukacs site.
I write books for a living, so an author should make money, but I am unawares of book prices in the UK. I only know the US, Germany and Austria...

    my best to you, FB

I would be interested to know the profit margins of the authors compared to the publishers. I would guess it's very low. If it's something you don't want to divulge though, that's fair enough.

Everything in the UK is marked up beyond belief however so I'm not really shocked by the prices of books, they're just another consequence of rip off Britain.

For my first book, I think I made less than a hundred dollars. For my second book, I made nothing. For my third book, I made nothing. For my fourth book, I will make nothing.

I should shift to love stories or pornography, I guess. Needless to say, the books I write are not for a commercial readership.

I have toyed with the idea of a black SS uniform book, if I could convince some colleagues to play along, but I have no time, and somewhat less interest.

Maybe if I retire and do not croak immediately, I will give it a shot. Actually, someone should organize all these posts into something. There is enough raw material here.

I would rush out and buy that book without doubt because I'm sure it would be the funniest book ever!
