I think Steve is correct!
The walking stick is meant for his elderly years, as we get shorter
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig. CE

Regards,
Steve.
Love that pic of you Steve

Nice job on the pic! If someone didn't recognize the face, they would never know. It's good to get a laugh around here, thanks for taking it well.

Credit where it is due, a Very Original post title....
Basically, all that needs to be said about this item has been said by Ned and others; still, do allow me to "shoehorn in' two general observations:
First: Swagger sticks have no tradition in the German military, let alone the SS. So, even without seeing the actual item (which does not resemble a swagger stick anyway), the very term "SS swagger stick" should be enough to raise anybody's hackles.
Second: It's not just that the decorative elements on the handle look nothing like SS runes; there are actually three of them! What on Earth does the seller think this could signify? The little-known SS Stutterers' Battalion? (Stotterersturmbann)?

Wot!? You guys never heard of a SS Swagger Shoehorn!?
That is after all, what the SS stands for!
Otherwise known as the 'SSSS', must be twice as tough and scary as those pansies in the regular SS!
Thanks to all for the replies... the Bible says a merry heart doeth good like a medicine and it is good that I have brought some joviality to War relics.
But 2 observations.....
1. Swagger stick was a poor choice. perhaps riding crop is the right wording because the stick was broken in half and I only have the upper half. So try to imagine a riding crop twice the length of what is shown. Of those I have seen a number of images on google.
2. I made the same mistake with the runes at first. There are 3 white bands but they are not the SS runes. That is the dark pair inside of the white. When you look at the dark pair the SS runes are clearly seen.
But the point of the matter is that no one recognizes the stick and that is what I was trying to find out
