Re: An interesting cuff band.
by
peter
Machine embroidered Umsiedlungskommando title, with gothic script,
circa 1940.
Ex-rare title, worn by the SS resettlement detachment formed to help repatriate Volkssdeutsche from the area of Ukraine/Bessarabia in 1940.
Their exploits can be read here
Nr. 1: Die Umsiedlung der Volksdeutschen aus Bessarabien im Jahre 1940.
Photographs exist of the title being worn with SD style uniforms, and SS insignia.
Any further information would be gratefully received.
Peter.
where do you turn these up Pete?
Cracking cuff. I've not seen one before. Hen's teeth?
Can't help you anymore, sorry

Re: An interesting cuff band.
Volk und Reich Verlag published various pictorial accounts of these ethnic cleansing actions connected with the Hitler-Stalin pact. There are also newsreels of the events in the Deutsche Wochenschau in You Tube. There is a recent book by Isabel Heinemann on the Rasse und Siedlungshauptamt in German which describes all of this in detail, as there exists an older literature on the Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle. Yours is a very rare piece and thanks for sharing it with us. Colleague Derek published here an image of these Umsiedlungskommando in action, though I had thought the cuff title was R u S Umsiedlungskommando, or SS Umsiedlungskommando, in fact? Congratulations on such a rare find.
