Article about: Here's a fez that I recently picked up from a man who inherited it from a veteran. Everything looks good to me, but i'd love to get some other opinions!

I must disagree. In my opinion this is a classic Handschar fez.

Nearly all of the fezes found in the west are unworn and have provenance to the storerooms at Dachau. I have seen them with gray, black and natural color sweatbands. I have only owned one of these that had been worn. On the backside of the sweatband was an ink stamped Islamic prayer in Arabic. It is out there somewhere.

Because in bosnia fez is traditional hat and it is not hard to put insignia on a good fez. I have seen lots of fake stuff of hanzar in bosnia. All picture of hanzar solidiers are post war production.

The fez and insignia are original.

People have been buying these to REMOVE the insignia. Such is the value of the badges alone.

There are countless original wartime photos of Hanschar Division troops wearing fezs.

    Cheers, Ade.
