Re: Mystery Watch Fob-SS?
Sifting through some old photographs, I found I actually had an image of one of these thingies in wear. So, while this thread may have already run its course, I thought this additional illustration of a Corps student displaying his colors might round it off nicely:

Bierzipfel not only Zipfel

These are so-called
Zipfel; these items are presented/exchanged between students belonging to German Student Corps, as a sign of friendship or a special relationship, or between fencers fighting a
Mensur.
The colors identify the Corps in question, as does the crest-and-cypher device; the inscription "S.S." means
Sommersemester (Summer Semester).
See here for an example from another Corps:

Bierzipfel not only Zipfel
I deliberately used the generic term as Bierzipfel is just one specific class/category of those (the broad ones). (See my above post # 9 and here: Zipfel )

Re: Mystery Watch Fob-SS?
Generation changes, description changes. Take it how you like it, I grew up to call them Bierzipfel.

Naw, just a humble bureaucrat glued to an office chair in the Lower Bavarian Uplands. But many thanks for your kind words!

If I ever come to Germany I would love to buy you a drink, and since my wife will not go to the opera with me I will take you instead, believe me she will thank you.
