Very nice, an interest is one thing, devoting yourself to your interest is something that I admire. Heinrich Himmler...A very power hungry man, I heard many of the High command disliked him for being manipulative. ex (Sepp Dietrich) LSSAH Commander, disliked him for suspending SS mens salaries to show who was in charge. He did seem like he wanted to eliminate close personal friends to Hitler. ex Bruno Gesche, the leader of the 8 man SS Begleitkommando, who openly criticized of poor security at a Nazi party rally in the late 20s or early 30s, Himmler wanted him out of the SS. Hitler simply repromanned Gesche and he eventually was sent to the eastern front for drinking problems. He was wounded outside Stalingrad and brought back and to Himmlers surprise, was appointed leader of the Begleitkommando again. Hitler was pleased that at 39 he could still fight even after the easy living in the escort.

The Hollywood remake("Jakob the Liar") of the classic German Holocaust film "Jakob Der Lügner"(Jacob the Liar (1975) - IMDb) made me sickened and angry, and it is exhibit A of the "Disneyification" of WW2 in modern Hollywood in my opinion. I couldn't agree more with you FB. Might I also suggest that readers check out "The Murderers are Among Us"? Another great postwar anti-war German film. (Murderers Among Us (1946) - IMDb)

I have never seen the film you mention, so I must do so. I know it is a great work.
The low point for me was the film of the last decade on Pearl Harbor, which seemed to me like a filmic edition of Men's Health with combat in it. In that, Tora, Tora from 1970 was a far better film, without fashion models as actors.
Clooney also did a rubble film, too, that is, a send up of the Third Man, and it was a horror....absurd in the extreme.

My taste diverges from the norm.

Thank you. In retrospect I am not so sure. However, along the way, I got to know Germany very well and many Germans, whom I esteem, and many people who lived in the III. Reich who became my friends, as well, and from whom I learned a great deal. For the fifteen year old of today, such a thing is no longer possible, since the world in which many were still alive and the evidence of the war was more present is itself now almost a half century ago.
The best thing was 1989 and the opening of central Europe, where I found my wife, whom I would not have found had I taken a different course to a normal middle class career of science and technology or the reign of the market.

Dear Colleague, I especially am fond of all the German actors in the Longest Day. Zanuck used very good Germans for the role. I am sure this experience made me learn German, in fact.

Well, yes, indeed. She is very attractive, but cannot mask what was otherwise an absurd farce, at least what I saw.
There are many nice actresses today, but the male variety seem to only come from Men's Health or GQor some stupid Armani fashion ad or something. I generally find women more interesting than men as a rule, and could describe that elsewhere....
The modern male actor does not really look human. My preference runs to Hans Albers and Curt Juergens, in fact, or even Heinrich George.
The latter was a wonderful actor. Also Hans-Christian Blech, of whom I am very fond, too. The list is long, but such persons are no where in Hollywood movies of the present....

Fittingly, during the first half of Pearl Harbor (i.e. the chick flick pre-airstrike bits) we saw all those youthful, male model-type soldiers exclusively engaged in activities such as hitting on youthful, fashion model-type nurses, waxing their surfboards, going to cafés, going to bars, going to the beach, having a swim, taking their girlfriends on aerial joyrides in their fighter planes, making love between decorative billowing parachutes, doing nothing in particular, goofing off, partying... in short, anything but soldiering. CINCUS, indeed.
