AlterKampfer refers to "old fighter" or old guard. I think the reference to Winkel was about the chevron insignia indicating the wearer was old guard. It indicated veteran status within the organization represented - not rank. NH

If you had used our search engine it would have popped up for you. It in English is means old fighters chevron, which was worn on the right sleeve of member of the SS, SA and NSKK for men who were party members before January 1933 when Hitler came to power. If you look through some of FB's posts, you will see them on some of his uniforms.

LIFE'S LOSERS NEVER LEARN FROM THE ERROR OF THEIR WAYS.
I know what they are, I just didn't know the German name. I have a SS one I have owned for 30 years. Thanks for the info.
We have talked at the SOS a few times. Hope to see you there.
If the setting is Finland, then they should belong to the SS Nord Division.
But no edelweiss to be seen. Also the officer is wearing a totenkopf tab.
Babi Yar is in the Ukraine, very far from Finland. Also the atrocities were carried out by Einsatzgruppen troops not SS Nord.
I think that we (forum members) have to make a movie it would be very accurate
Horribly bad movie, not worth seeing.
I thought the Babi Yar massacre occurred in September 1941 and took place in the Ukraine near kiev, whilst the 3rd SS division totenkopf was with army group north near Leningrad?

Jerry
