Glenn an interesting theory so there is a possibility that this tunic could be war time altered.

I don't know about the SS part of it it is five button M-43 I don't collect SS but I do agree with Glenn about worn and patched up tunics especially by POW they were worn after the war also and patched up and even altered before POW release to make them appear more Civilian. I have a Luftwaffe tunic that has been replaced with civilian type buttons down the front It came from 3rd army MP who guarded POW at the end of war. The lower pocket flaps are cut off so that the Guards could look into the pockets when POW was returning from work detail. So this tunic could well be a ex POW. timothy

Mark, I do see what you mean regarding the button placement, I was thinking that , too.
The POW theory is viable and makes sense.
Brabander, I don't know if you want to trade a good police tunic for this. You could get a better one than this.
