Please help me identify this patch

This is a very poor picture of my great great uncle. He was in the Leibstandarte-SS and I believe the highest rank he achieved was Sturmbannfuhrer. I know that he was involved with resettling ethnic Germans into Jewish/Pole houses and shops etc. I have been searching for quite a bit on what the patch above the swastika means. On close inspection by magnifying glass it is a white shield-like icon with a '40' with a non-runic 'S' under it. Thanks.

The patch is for the R.A.D. - 'Reich Arbeits Dienst', which is the 'National Labour Service'.

Thank you very much, Steve. With that knowledge I was able to determine that the 40 is group number and the 5 section number. I will use that to continue researching.
