I notice in the color plate image posted by DrCMH the numbers match on the collar tab and the sturmband.

I notice in the color plate image posted by DrCMH the numbers match an the collar tab and the sturmband.

Up until 1937, this would make him a member of the staff of the 1st Standarte; after that, a member of the 1st Sturm of the 1st Standarte.

Given the timeframe illustrated here (notice the early white-piped collar patches and the first-pattern eagle), it has to be the former, though.
