Here is a nice sd diamond i bought recently. It is made on moleskin type material.I'm only used to seeing them on wool.
Does anyone have any moleskin examples to show? and is it common to find them on moleskin.
Cheers
Dave.

Dave,
This is an SD diamond for an other rank, not an officer, and it is piped to show previous service in the Gestapo.
Personally, I have not seen many of these but I would not have a problem with the type of cloth used as moleskin was used for both early and late war runic patches.
As most of these turn up with a plain flat reverse without the fold over edge, perhaps this is a private purchase item?
Thanks Bochmann for your assistance very much appreciated.I was also thinking it could possibly be a private purchase item.
I have never been in any doubt of it's originality it came from a good source.I was just curious as to why the s and d were not in bullion.Would other rank mean nco?.
Cheers
Dave.
Dave,
"Yes" Other ranks would include NCO ranks too.
There is a very good photo that has been shown on the Forum of 4 SD troops in a vehicle and the 2 SD Oberscharfuhrers present are both wearing piped SD diamonds.
Nice badge Dave
There are some variants in Bandos book
