It's nice to finally see some up close pics of this silk top cap. Do you know of any similar examples in existence?
Friedrich..I can see why this cap is the pride of your collection..which has outstanding hand work through out..one question..was the silken cap at an extra expense to the officer as opposed to the commonly seen woolen caps? Regards Larry

As to others, Jenkins has one; Pepera had one(seen here) ; a French collector had one; and on and on. They are not common, but others surely exist.
I also had a grey silk one, too, actually more or less when I bought this in the early 1970s. It is long gone and lost.
As to the cost, I think this cap was slightly more expensive than the woolen one. We have the price list somewhere.
The silk cap cost a few pfennigs more as you see here. Item 67 is the woolen, and item 70 is the silken officer cap.

Fantastic cap FB.
A beautiful, rare cap from the world's leading collection of schwarze mutzen. I have never encountered one of these except having the opportunity to handle this example.

Great cap ! Beautiful shape ! 1a qualität !
Is the black material below the band also in silk, or is it the standard wool? I briefly owned an earlier one, perhaps c. 1935 or so, which had the cream Sonderanfertigung lining with runes; I seem to think that it had a matching silk base along the bottom. Paul Sack has or had a similar example once owned by Karl Wolff and it appears in his wonderful book "Exotische"...
