Am I correct in thinking this piece is bad? I have just been offered it and the head looks off to me. Please tell me what you think, thank you.

I have many wool sleeve eagles and have not seen this type before.

Thanks Bob. I've been searching the forums for a similar one, but found none. The lack of detail around the feet and the head and beak are the first things I noticed.
I would lean towards it being fake.

Thanks Mike. I take it there are a number of known variants, none which look like the one I posted though.

Not Original.
Thanks Carlsson, that's what I thought. The seller does not want to believe me, says a dealer confirmed it to be original.
He did not buy it from this dealer, only asked his advise. Won't buy from that dealer again.....

are there any SS arm eagles done on grey - green instead of black?
Hi Colt, the very early first pattern SS sleeve eagles, introduced in 1936, can be found embroidered on feldgrau wool. These are a different pattern to the familiar sleeve eagle, the second pattern, which most collectors know about. The first pattern was replaced in 1938.
Cheers, Ade.
