Bad im afraid. I had a lesson taught in these recently when I bought a bad one. This one is wrong material, wrong construction, and pretty sure the markings are not accurate either. Search the SS forum and you will be able to find some original examples.

Jeff ... can be more specific about your opinion .... than "wrong" ... "wrong" ... I want some solid arguments, because you did not have that button in your hand ... metal can shine in different ways in the pictures ! I wonder how you deduced that it is wrong materially ? ... the button was cleaned very well and now the material is shiny ... was found in Romania? ... not bought on the internet! .... you have the original one?
.... the button is my ... I attached some pictures ... with flash and without flash!

    Thank you!

As Jeff has said - wrong material, wrong construction, as well as incorrect markings,
and I will add - incorrect finish. The SSVT buttons posted by Zero
and Peewee are both Fakes !

The above button, posted by FB is genuine. Please note the differences !

    Below, two later original buttons.........

Bob Hritz among many is very expert in these matters. There was a final species of this button that I have seen which might be similar to the one in question, but I prefer what I have posted.
The desideratum for a tutorial on all manner of "sculls" is outstanding and unfulfilled for years.
I own one of these side caps, of which my picture is an illustration.

ss buttonHere is said cap. I am not going to make any more of a "scull" tutorial than I have in posting my caps a thousand times to the sound of one hand clapping.

I am no expert in "sculls," that is for bloody sure.

It helps immensely when you have owned and handled
    originals from which to study.........

Thanks. I had several of these in the far off 1970s and then sold them all. I have an image of one of them somewhere. I had the brown SSTV one, too, actually. I think it is also in the Shea Beaver book, but my memory of the thing is fuzzy. It had a VA 1936 stamp in it.

Today I have just one, and it was from the Stadnicki collection, in fact.

I had one with multiple tags and stamps, with the 1937 tag, too.

Hritz knows these buttons cold, which I do not. I have a heap of SS buttons on black SS tunics, of course, but that is something else.

You are right, though, that ownership of these things make all the difference, and I have been at pains to share as best I can.ss button
