SS funeral photo. Could someone tell me what the decoration with the red arrow is?

Article about: I recently acquired this SS funeral photo. Could someone tell me what the decoration with the red arrow is? I also wonder why they are using a WW1 type helmet on the casket. Thanks very much

The helmet is a Transitional M16 or M17 used in the early period of the TR.

This photo would of been taken in the 1940's though. Did they still use that style of helmet in the Waffen SS during that period?

Transitional helmets were used throughout the War.
But I can not say rather or not this fallen soldier was SS or not.
Others may be able to help on that part.

I believe he was SS because of the SS collar tabs in the upper left of the photo.

Yup, driver as said. Maybe he was LSSAH and that was his "Himmler" helmet..who knows? I see a couple allgemeine SS men on the right. Great photo, though ! I love photographs..especially SS themed ones. I am lucky enough to own a few WAFFEN-SS ones, myself.
