Thank you Guys!
I got a tip from BenVK that if I steamed the small part of the upper piping that was out of shape, I could have it back to its original look. Here is the result. Thanks mate!
just superb
Marvelous piece and we also admire your girl friend on the other site, too. Or you sister, or whoever. Just do not put the cap on her head, though. These things are too fragile to wear.
This cap is a lesson to all in the reality of SS headwear, especially the grey variant. You do not as a rule secure them from the heirs of SS men in Muenchen Feldkirchen or Obermaching, nor do you find them wholly intact in foot lockers of the greatest generation. They come more or less exactly as Anders S found same, with a fair amount of confusion and the need of some sensible restoration.
He shows us the virtues of the coup d' oeil and Entschlusskraft, i.e. the capacity to sum up a situation quickly and then carry through with a course of action. Bravo.
The result is pleasing and a source of real pride in a young aspiring collector. And, the cost was safe and sane, unlike the sums some of us here have spent...
Much good fortune in your future collecting.
Beautiful, Congrat's on a well done restoration.
rgds, Ty
Thank you for all the kind words, from all of you.
Now the hunt begins on the next item!
