SS insignia from the Ostmark

Article about: by d'alquen I believe the men in post #38 are at the SS camp for Austrian refugees at Waischenfeld . The H.W.L. Schleissheim buldings in the Uebungslager Dachau are quite different. I agree

The woman you mention, Robert, is a historian in Vienna. Rothlaender. Her book is magnificent.
The "Alpenland" cuff title is somewhere here in the U.S.
I enclose the image from the insanity website.
I do not collect loose insignia and I refuse to have any business dealings with anyone on the maroon moron site.

thank you for the input, she looks Oesterreichisch.
One very rare sleeve diamond I found once.
The quality of the embroidery speaks volumes, note also the proper F tag.

    Robert,
Thanks for posting that excellent example of a very scarce diamond. It can't have been worn by many men, in fact I will have to check my files but I don't recall having a picture of it in wear.

I am assuming that permission was sought from and gracefully granted by the chap who originally posted these items on the Wehrmacht Awards Forum, prior to this thread, post number 1 ?

    Regards,

D., as I know Standartenfuehrer and higher of the 87th Standarte assigned to the Abschnitt staff.
Maybe only Feichtmayer. Not sure as this is the only once I saw in decades.

Very nice badge and even nicer historian in Vienna, indeed.

    Robert,
I checked through some documents and here is a succinct description from the SS-Befehls-Blatt of October 25, 1938. I did find a fair bit of correspondence from the summer of 1938 in other SS documents regarding the wear of the edelweiss as the Austrian units were rehabilitated and I suspect this notice was the result of that discussion.
This would suggest the diamond was issued rather more than I first thought.

Thank you, Robert and mr. d'Alquen for another level of complexity, indeed.
The 87 Sta. was that of: Innsbrueck
and the 76. Sta. was that of: Salzburg
The Abschnitt was HQd in Salzburg.

In any case, your Aermelraute is a fine piece and thanks for sharing it.

Did not the Linzer Standarte, Sta. 37 also wear the Edelweiss at some point?
