Hi Kevin, auction houses are not the place to buy a good quality cap/ TR items, these places are where people( if you can call them that ) want to pedal fake items. Maybe someone will be lucky once in a while. MAYBE.

There are a few reputable Auction Houses out there, but so few bargains.

There are many examples of genuine gray SS caps contained in the files of this Forum. Please note that genuine branch piped gray SS hats are extremely rare and seldom encountered. This cap is so bad that even with a small amount of research, no offense intended, even a beginer should be able to spot it for what it is-horrible 4th Reich junk. If you are considering buying SS items in the future, buy some books and build a library. The search engine on this site will provide you with genuine examples of many different items detailed and explained by long time collectors.

These are real grey SS caps.

with authentic army Pz caps mixed in, to boot.

and the ex Mollo Boehmer cap which has the Waffenfarbe and is authentic.

Caps with the Waffenfarbe are few and far between.

Fake caps with the "colored pipes " are thick on the ground.

Look at all, and I mean all the many threads we have here built carefully by a handful ....
