From what I can see in these images, this appears to be a genuine fez that has had the original insignia stripped off and had fake insignia poorly applied.

So I've decided to take it. Its only 50 GBR
I love restoring, I will remove the bad insignia and apply a real one.
I see that in germanmilitaria.com there is one for sale and
as the fez Eric has - its with BEVO insignia.
SO they were issued only with BEVO insignia?

Yes, the thread starter is in poor condition.
But I prefer to save it. Its better to leave this piese of history to die.
THat is why i've decided to buy it.

Hi George,All I have seen were Bevo style not saying that is all they made but it is all I have seen,Bob may have more info on the matter.
Most of the insignia on the Handschar Fez was removed on put on fake caps to fool the unknowing and command a higher price than the Fez.

The investment in genuine insignia, if you can find it, will cost you more than the price of an untouched original example. It will also be apparent that the insignia has been tampered with as you will not be able to replicate the original stiching. This fez, in my opinion, is not worth saving due to the condition. They are not rare as a large quantity of these were found in the storerooms at Dachau.
