I recently came upon this chart and instantly thought it would fit well within this thread. Although this is a wonderful basic break-down of the different SS RZM tags and their meanings, I do not completely agree with on aspect.
As of yet, I've not encountered any proper evidence showing that the letter on the paper variant of the RZM tags were meant to denote the level of complexity of the items production. I am curious to know if it is indeed a proven fact that the letter was meant to represent such? I must admit, it does appear that way when comparing how intricate a item is to another, and what letter is there.
Enjoy,
The Thayer article in the Bender magazine ca. 1995 has a far more incisive analysis of such tags for insignia than as found above.
Only by a close reading of the RZM circulars, which are very dense and especially hard to understand even for me with forty years of professional experience as a historian, archivist, etc., can anyone disentangle this system. And, mention of SS regalia there is very infrequent.
Can anyone post the Thayer article in the Bender magazine. I'm not sure where to purchase this magazine and google didn't reveal much.
Write to Bender. He has a website. The article is from the year 1995.
