SS Sahariana mystery

Article about: Hi Wolfslair, Is it possible for you to post general interior and rear photos, please? I agree that this is not a classic German manufactured 'sahariana' tunic as Adrian quite rightly points

    Default SS Sahariana mystery

    Hello all,
I'm seeking opinions / clarification on the origins of this SS Sahariana style tunic. I've not seen another example similar in style or cut. Could it be the 1st pattern cut? The insignia is original, the buttons have dated years of manufacture from "41 - "43.
Any information on where this tunic might have seen active service would be greatly appreciated.
    Best,
    Wolfslair.

Hi, this is actually not a Sahariana pattern tunic. These have a yoke over the shoulders which forms the breast pocket flaps.

This is just a standard later pattern tropical tunic worn in Italy and the Balkans and possibly Southern Russia.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Thanks Ade,
This is then a legitimate SS tunic? I have found a photo of this style jacket in Beaver's "Uniforms of the Waffen SS"
It's interesting to note that some SS tropical tunics have SS collar tabs and others don't. Maybe some reglations were not being followed.
    Regards and thanks for looking.

i think only insignia of rank were to be worn on these tunics, but some used collar tabs, some didn't,,,looks like the regs were'nt enforced much,,,

Kriegsmarine tropical tunic. The underarm vent holes gives it away.

Sorry Bob, I think the Kriegsmarine Tropical tunic is a different style and cut from the sample above.
There's quite a few examples of the KM's on the other site but I believe non are similar to this one. I could be wrong though! Thanks for looking.
