...Some of the many horrific images that came from the camps included mounds of shoes and eyeglasses which were to be reissued to Germans, gold and silver rings and even gold teeth destined for smelting, and even piles of human hair, shaved from prisoners' heads and collected for recycling, although for what purpose I'm not sure. ...
It is alleged that the hair was used to make army blanket and socks for U boat crews. I found this link for documentation.
Germany - Car Firm Used Hair from 40,000 Auschwitz Prisoners -- VosIzNeias.com
Jer
Horse hair felt was used during that era to line automobile seating,
to envelope radiators to direct the air flow, as well as 'buffer'
padding placed between body and frame, so human hair
was probably a substitute.
This is how the 'german car firm' shown here
would have been directly involved.

Bit of a co-incidence, I have the book written by two Sunday Times journalists tracing the perpetrators of the German natiobal gold reserves in Bavaria by a combine of US Militarypersonnel and grman civilians in June 1945, a total of 730 gold bars valued at £3,528,000 together with 6 sacks of banknotes and 25 boxes of platinum bars and precious stones disappeared in transit but none of those responsible were ever brought to justice, the value of the haul today would be £2.5 bilion - the authors trace the cuplrits including one Otto Skorzeny , yes the famous german soldier who rescued Mussolini - the books have pictures of the US soldiers recovering the initial haul before it was stolen, unfortunately the book is still copyrighted so can't show these pix but heres the cover.
The amount stated above was the value in 1945...............!
Where in Bavaria was this load of gold bullion and bags
of cash found ?
I have a book by Donald Burgett (101st Airborne) where he states
that he and a few other 101st soldiers were the ones who first
found this hoard (or one similar to it) in railway cars on a siding.
But because they waited too long in deciding what to do with it
and where/how to hide it, it became property of the 'Brass'
who came a short while later with the local Mayor and it
was declared off limits.....
He writes that he saw bags of US bank notes, and in one railway car,
gold bars lining the entire floor.

Re: SS silver/gold bullion bars.....
Steve, the gold was hidden in various places, including as your vet stated from railroad cars in the 2000 deep saltmine at Merkers in Thurungia -this included rare paintings and art works -the backgarden of Haus Huhe Halde, the Von Bluchers villa in Garmisch had over$400,000 of reichsbank currency hidden the vegetable beds, under a haystack at Klaus Bremmer;s farm at Oberau was $400, 000 more than $2,000,000 today
other places were a bunker inthe mountains outside Mittenwald and the Forest house at Einsiedt overlooking the Walchensee in the stables before being removed on mules up the Steinrigel hills where they were buried - the gold was buried by Colonel Pfeiffers men - the americans who discovered part of the gold from the Steinrigel cache were Major William Geiler, Captain George Garwood, and Captain Walter Dee of the 10th amored division

Re: SS silver/gold bullion bars.....
I've heard there is still 'nazi treasure' waiting to be found
hidden away somewhere in Germany/Europe.

Re: SS silver/gold bullion bars.....
Hmm Nazi gold eh? Possibly a sensitive subject, considering where much of it may have come from.I was watching a programe the other day which showed art treasures that Goering intended to have. It was meant to have taken art specialists ages to catalogue and return it to right full owners.Perhaps one of the metal detector guys on here will hit the jackpot one day!!
