SS Trap Insignia, Is This Real Or Fake?

Hi there.

I am new to the forum and need some help identifying this SS trapezium insignia. I have collected US Militaria for more than 15 years so this is a bit new to me. I picked this patch up 10 years ago with a Luftwaffe breast eagle from an Antique shop in Whitby England and was told they came from a house clearance.

The patch is Felt backed and shows definite age but in all the research i have done i have only been able to find Grey examples and not dark green like this one. I know the German army had Insignia that was this colour in the early satges of the war but i am not sure about ther SS? So is this an early war piece or a fantasy piece?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum, you have come to the best place for expert opinion!!I have to say that i feel it just does not have the quality required to be a genuine example even if it were to be a late war one. As you quite rightly say the colour is odd and unless you take into account fadeing from service wear that this peice does'nt appear to show there is no explination other than a reproduction.
