Well founded scepticism--if truly cut from the front of the cap why is there no reinforcing strip sewn to the backing wool? On field caps there is usually additional fabric in the front and particularly up the center seam.

Well said. I was uncomfortable with this as well, however, I tried to remain focused on the insignia itself. These eagles are always a bit of a quagmire. Arran has experience in these and I will defer to his opinion. Nigel is spot-on with his comment above.
I haven't anything of merit to offer further on this, and as to not cloud others decisions, I will now bow out on this one.
