Salting = placing items where they will likely be found by hunters and collectors. They used to do this with old gold mines-they would distribute a couple of nuggets inside them, make a show of finding them and then sell the worthless mine for a huge profit. In this case, the planted "nuggets" are not even genuine items, but here, they're going for the item being judged genuine from the Location. Scam is a scam is a scam, I guess...
