So then...the writing on the armband is in a combination of Two different fonts (Impact Condensed and Futura demi-condensed) -both being Post War? Would this not be a fairly definitive conclusion for it's age then?
If I have identified either of the fonts correctly I would say it is post 1950.

But even if the fonts are misidentified IMO the letter spacing (kerning) especially in the word "Waffen" puts it in the phototypeset era or digital era.

I think this font issue is a whole new element of militaria research that has hardly been tapped as yet. Surely such intimate knowledge lies only in the hands of a few and I for one am grateful to have you on our team!

Font design and typography is an area I enjoy studying

There is an online font discovery tool and forum which is often very helpful as a starting place to identify fonts and from there it is just basic research to find out who designed the particular font and when and which modern versions exist. You can even set sample words in selected fonts using most of the online font typefoundary websites to compare against an original typeset word or short phrase.

So you see it is not such an esoteric field

Well done you for having the patience to seek out knowledge in the dimly lit corners of militaria.

    Gentlemen,
I'd like to thank everyone for their posts, they've certainly made the thread informative and lively. Special thanks to our gifted amateur Typographer - 4thskorpion, he deserves all the credit for putting this one to bed.
The past couple days I've scoured the net for anything on this SS Wallonie unit - found little, except a small potted history - first the unit was part of regular Wehrmacht (deemed not Germanic enough for the SS) then adopted in June 1943 into the SS, altogether in existence less than two years. Yesterday I did as promised, go and get new better pictures, passed the UV light over the armband it didn't glow, early on in the thread Wagriff mentioned the width, its wider than normal 12 cm, here are the new pictures -

In the past, in Charleroi, I met two old men from this unity with a small museum on Wallonie. I don't remember of that.

    I wouldn' say that!
But then again French isn't my mother language...
To me when speaking on one volunteer, the one who is wearing it; it is "volontaire"...of the Legion...
But when speaking of the "Legion" it can be volontaire with "s" because of the plurality.
About the originality of it I would doubt too. Met a lot of Walloon volunteers and never heard them mentioning such a armband.
    Also love the font conclusion!

Of course, Legion volontaires = Légion des Volontaires. The "é "is missing. Perhaps made in a country where people speake English like India....
