I recently read that mainly Waffen SS and FJ's were issued the Browning HP after the Germans took over production in 1940. Is this proven and if so, is there anyway to trace back who a Browning was issued to? A SS or FJ, name, rank, etc? Thanks!

browning hipowers were issued to canadians, SAS, SS, Fallschirmjagers there is proof as you can get a hp with waffenmapts they are still issued today to various forces as far as i gather there isn't a way of finding out who used it unless there is a ss rune on it which is highly unlikley

Tom, you are correct. Both sides used the Browning. Allied forces used the ones out of Canada. I am picking a German issue HP up tomorrow. I have read though that they primariilay were issued to Waffen SS and FJ's. There are no different markings or stampings for SS with these guns. I thought maybe there was a registry I could find from the war.
highly unlikely a long shot would be to find the year and maybe who grabbed it off the german and brought it back see where he was stationed and go from there but it is unlikely
