Waffen SS wearing of Kurland, Afrika and Afrikakorps Cufftitles
Article about: Hi All, I couldn’t find any information anywhere regarding the wearing of the Kurland, Afrika and Afrikakorps cufftitles. Did they ever get awarded these and if so were they authorised for w
Only a very small number of SS men served in North Africa. The only photo of an Afrika cuff title worn with SS uniform that I am aware of is of Walther Rauff, head of Einsatzkommando Tunis (it can be readily found by a Google image search for his name).
Many SS units fought in Kurland, but given the extremely late institution date of the cuffband (12 March 1945), period photos of it in wear are not too common; I don't think I've ever seen one showing an SS man.
CInteresting he is wearing it on his leather great coat!
However as a Standartenfuhrer who would stop him?!
And why should anybody stop him? Campaign cuff bands were officially to be worn on tunic- as well as greatcoat sleeves. Leather greatcoats were just an optional item worn by officers instead of cloth greatcoats.
