Article about: Dear All, My Great-Grandfather died in WWI in Italian/Slovenian teritory (in September 1917). Can you help me with more info about his rang and signs on the uniform. I dont understand hungar

    Dear All,

    My Great-Grandfather died in WWI in Italian/Slovenian teritory (in September 1917).

    Can you help me with more info about his rang and signs on the uniform.

    I dont understand hungarian but seems to me that he was part of 50 infantry division

    "Petró János" (his name)
    "csendőr őrmester" (gendarme/police sergeant)
    ... sorry can't make out the 3rd line...
    "táboripósta 525" (field post/army post office 525)

    I think he was an feldwebel- sergeant major. The feldpost is 525 (2) 3-9/17, 8/18 50 ID
    The 50 I.D. was 12 May 1917 XV Kps: 3 GbBrig, 15 GbBrig: 50 RFABrig as Kps artillery: until at least 18 Aug 17.
    24 Oct 1917 d.14 Armee, Gp Stein (III bayr.AKps): 3 GbBrig, 15 GbBrig, StKomp 50, 29 FABrig with elements of 50 ID

    The XV korps was in Isonzo Armee 1 Apr 1917 5 Armee: 50 ID, 1 ID
    12 May 1917 5 Armee: 50 ID, 1 ID
    5 Jun 1917 Isa: 50 ID, 1 ID, 12 SchD arriving St Veitsburg
    18 Aug 1917 Isa: Kmdt -Scotti: 50 ID, 1 ID
    24 Oct 1917 d. 14 Armee as Gp Scotti: 1 ID, d. 5 ID
    26 Dec 1917 d. 14 Armee as Gp Scotti: 50 ID, 9 ID, 35 ID

    The 50 I.D. was under XV korps at Tolmein in Soča valley.

    It says "50. Inf. Trp. Div." = "50. Infanterietruppendivision" [50th Infantry Troops Division].

    Dear All,

    thanks for the help, it was very usefull ... I received an info from Austrian arhive that he was part of "Gendarmerieregiment Nr. 8", but still I cant get an info when and were he was born (Hungarian archives were destroxed in WWII).
    Now Im checking another clue if on the card he was writing to his brother Petró András ... can somebody help me with the thher word translation:
    Pek?
    Petró András ?
    k.u.k. ? ?
    Nyiregyhaza
    Barak 25

    Nyiregyhaza <--- a city in Hungary
    Barak 25 <--- barrack (a building for soldiers) 25 or 45(?)
