    Does anyone have any recommendations on how to store this dagger to protect the details?

    Just keep it dry (away from humidity) and in a temperature controlled room. Those brass based fittings hold up very well, unless you are rubbing them excessively or banging them against things! LOL Kevin.

    Found a nice, slightly used looking portepee for the dagger. It's complete now! I hope I attached it right...

    I have seen portepees tied in many ways, also in original WW2 photographs. But the most commonly seen ways to tie the portepee (and considered "textbook") are shown in the pictures below.

    Supposedly (well actually there are illustrations showing it from Heer regulations) the second pic Danny shows with the port cord coming through on top of the cords wrapped around the guard is the early version and the other pic is the later regulation tie. What year they changed I can't recall..but I do use the early tie on all my slants! Kevin.
