I have a special appreciation for the early NCO swords that were WaA proofed and numbered. This was the third one I added to my collection. When you hold any of the dress swords up to one of these it is easy to feel the difference in the quality of build.

I have to admit to a fondness for the swords made for the Unteroffizier mit Portepee myself. Made to the higher, what we would now probably call “milspec” standards. And passed by the German Army Inspectorate based in Solingen, with my fondness also extending to the Imperial era. With these types overall, at least in my experience, much scarcer than the ordinary officer types. Regards, Fred

You are correct, these with the WaA proof are military spec and are made of much better quality. The Officers swords I have from WWII are parade swords and nothing more. When you hold one of these in one hand and an officers in the other you can feel the difference in weight, size and quality.
