what made me think it was FW Holler is that i have a nice early Holler with that exact marking on the tang will post some pics for you as soon as i work out this camera,

Yep, I know as I've seen the mark on many a dagger blade, but the blade was marked in that manner by a "generic" manufacturer of blades. The makers, such as Holler, bought blades from this bunch and etched their name on it and assembled their fittings or fittings they bought from some other source, and came up with the finished product.
