I think that would be your best option, now I don`t know anything about "shine" but it sounds like a compound rather than a harmless polish. i have been collecting daggers for a long time, my colleagues have a collective of many decades collecting & I have never even heard anyone using "shine" before.
As a general guide, if you wouldn`t put it on valuable antique wood then don`t put it on you blades.
