I think your assumption is correct. I base this on very poor detail.

From the pictures it looks like a "Alcoso" pattern Wehrmacht sword that has gone through a rough life-the scabbard has been repainted probably because the black paint was gone and the scabbard had some surface rust?? Is there a maker mark on the blade?? either way it is period.

Thanks for the help guys. Is it even worth $100 if I made an offer for it? I've had other dovetails that were in great shape that were about $375 but this one is rough....
$100. would be about tops -possibly with a little love and professionaly repainting the scabbard black it would return to some of its original glory_
