Hi Al, From my understanding the way to date the later pattern sheaths is by the way the belt loop section is attached to the main body. If its secured with rivets of a material other than brass it is post war, brass rivets or staples are wartime. I am not certain of this, though.
This site seems to be a good resource on the subject:
fairbairn-sykes fighting knives
I have a (probably) postwar 3rd pattern FS knife and scabbard.
Good condition, never been used.
No markings except "1" on handle just below pommel.
Metal tipped leather sheath, missing top strap.
No idea of value but I have no desire to keep edged weapons now, I am concentrating on air weapons. So it's for sale

Hi Partisan 42 , welcome to the forum , and thanks for your comments and the link , it`s been a great help and very informative . I`m also very pleased that i have been able to confirm that one of my FS knives is of the period , as i had suspected !
cheers Al
No problem Al. Thank you for the warm welcome. I am glad the site was useful, I have found it helpful before.
Hello Ade, you probably know this by now since it's an old post but if not then the wording under the William Rodgers name is their motto/trade mark wotsit...There is some other very small text under the Rodgers mark which I cannot make out.? I don't have any pics of the markings on file, so I will do some once I get chance in daylight.
'I Cut My Way'
Here's a couple of pics of one of my William Rodgers sheath knives with it on...
Hi Mike, nice to see you here, welcome!

Cheers, Ade.
