Is this Fairbairn-Sykes knife worth anything!!

The new Applegate Fairbarn model is an excellent fighting knife. Even has removable counter weights in the handle for optimizing the handling.

I believe the Applegate-Fairbairn is a commercial knife. There are a lot of modern
copies/replics of the Sykes-Fairbairn available. Many of these have been
made for the 'collector's market' in the last 20 to 30 years or so.

Yes that newer model is a commercial knife. It's a really nice knife though. I just thought i would derail this thread with some knife "talk" since Krisjacob or what his name is, don't want to explain further why he puts the same knife up in two different posts with two somewhat similar names.

I also don't think the newer A F knife have been issued to any army. I might be wrong on this one, but it should. As a combat/fighting knife it's really good, maybe even better than the old F S. Imo

A complete re-design. The Boker A-F is indeed a much better knife, IMO as well.
( I am a big fan of the SOG 'Desert Dagger', however...............)

I've read that the original style knives, with their thin handles, tended to 'roll'
in the hand, and you could not get a very firm hold on the grip. The new
design is a lot better in this respect, with much broader panels.

Two F-S '3rd pattern' knives. One was given to me, and one was $35.

I would imagine the F S had a tendency to roll as you say. The guard, is hilt the correct term is also better on the A F. It's actually possible to catch the blade on another knife with it.

Is that your F S knives Steve? I always liked the design/looks of those.

The crossguard of the A-F is curved forward on each side for that very reason...........!
