The MOD were still buying FS knives up until at least 2008, I've no idea if they actually issued them or they just sat in the stores though...probably the latter...?

ive got to say that is a suprise to me
that looks liken the j Knowls ?? last issue knife to me i know the maker is on the box
but the over sized scaberd and such is much like my two
ours came in a wooden box ,knives in grease proof paper and seperate scaberds ,,50 in the box
i got mine in 1982
2008 date is suprising

no ,i dont believe anything about the box ,,or the labels on it
the knife i think is good

I believe there is a certain mystique about the F-S, and that may be why
they are still popular and commercially available today. Since it was
originally designed as a 'killing knife', it may have fallen out of
favour with the military.

I own two examples of fairly recent British MOD 'utility' knives.
These have blackened blades with wooden handles, and
seem to have been designed for chopping meat
instead of stabbing people.

Both are quite large, and one has grip panels like the type
you would find on a butcher's knife, with big copper
rivets. One was discussed on the forum
not too long ago.

Yes the F S is clearly made for the purpose of stabbing, and that is about it. Of course it would be usable for other purposes if one does not have anything else. But for chopping and splitting wood it will suck bad. Also skinning game, and small wood work it will not be my first choice. For stabbing though it will do excellent. For fighting/fencing it would be a good choice either. A Bowie type knife with a back cut would be much more suitable, and that is actually what the Bowie was designed for.

When I bought the knife I contacted the manufacturers to check if the knife was the real deal or if it was a touch dodgy. The knife is the genuine item, it was made by them for the MoD. They also still make a commercial version of the knife (it is slightly different) and sell that using the William Rodgers brand name. They also basically confirmed that it most likely had been nicked from an MOD stores somewhere as they don't sell the MOD version to the public.

F-S is a pure stabbing knife, which is not acceptable nowadays for over -humanist societies. (most people wouldn't accept even in their minds, that war is war: kill or get killed) I would say more correct stabbing, untrained person hardly can use it and win. Commandos were trained , mounts and mounts.

As for chopping wood or something like that, British army was equipped by machetes and survival knifes like MOD
