One I dug up on an excavation and the oldest button in my collection, dating to before 1881, though from Queen Victorias reign so after 1837.

Indeed. I have a few more that I have dug up over the years, but this is the earliest and most satisfying.

Its from 1856-1881, initially the 93rd wore a diamond pattern when the tunic came in, in 1855, they went round the following year. There are some slight changes in numeral size in that period but hard to call which order they come in.
